Skills Workshop 1: Imaging Studies

Content Description:
Review current radiologic tools for diagnosing, staging, restaging, and evaluating early response to therapy for a number of common malignancies. Speaker will focus on CT, MR (neurologic, abdominal, and breast), bone scintigraphy, ProstaScint®, PET, and PET/CT. Discuss when to order a certain exam as well as the relative strengths and weaknesses of each. Patient radiation risk will also be discussed.

Skills Workshop 2: Cardiology

Content Description:
Following a brief review of the effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy on the cardiovascular system, case studies will be used to demonstrate different modalities (MUGA, Echocardiogram, CT and Cardiac Catheterization) to evaluate and diagnose complications. Review of the latest guidelines and interpretation of data in regards to the unique needs of the cancer population will be covered.

Skills Workshop 3: Bone Marrow Biopsy

Content Description:
This session will enhance the knowledge and skills related to the advanced provider's role in performing bone marrow examinations. The method of instruction will include a short didactic lecture, individualized hands-on practicum with human models, anatomical manequins, sternal and pelvic models as well as complete bone marrow biopsy trays. Instructional content will explore a broad compliment of procedural concepts and diagnostic assays.

Skills Workshop 4: Benchmarking

Content Description:
During this session participants will review and analyze various benchmarking components to better judge their institution’s relationship when compared to others. This didactic review and small workgroup discussions will assist participants to understand how individual indicator elements impact quality ratings in healthcare.

Skills Workshop 5: Aromatherapy

Content Description:
Aromatherapy and essential oils have been utilized as a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to improve the quality of life of persons with cancer. This workshop will briefly review the history and use of aromatherapy, including published laboratory studies and clinical trials. Participants will test the utilization and application of various samples.

Skills Workshop 6: Neurologic Assessment

Content Description:
Utilizing a case study format, this session will address indications for performing neurological assessment, techniques for examining both central and peripheral nervous systems, indications for laboratory studies, lumbar puncture (LP), electroencephalogram (EEG), electromyogram (EMG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Continuing with case studies, participants will practice these skills in small groups
