ONS Simulation Activities Gives You a Front Row Seat for Live Case Studies on Hypersensitivity and Neutropenic Fever/Sepsis

Make room in your conference schedule to check out the new ONS Simulation Activities, where nurses will act out case studies on hypersensitivity and neutropenic fever. You’ll have an opportunity to interact with the presenters, helping them chose the best treatment and management options for the “patients.”

Neutropenic Fever/Sepsis Scenario

Friday, November 4 • 12:30-1 pm
Saturday, November 5 • 8:45-9:15 am(repeat session)

Mary Smith is a 66-year-old recently diagnosed with stage IIIB Hodgkins lymphoma.  The only pertinent thing in her past medical history is non-insulin dependent diabetes. Her husband calls the clinic to report that wife Mary is having chills and has a fever of 100.8 degrees.  He states that Mary received her 15th-day treatments of her third cycle of ABVD a little over a week ago via her mediport. The nurse instructs Mr. Smith to bring Mary to the clinic right away. When Mary arrives at the clinic, she has a fever of 101.5 and is pale, clammy, and restless.

Come to this session to learn more about how to assess and treat Mary.

Hypersensitivity Scenario

Friday, November 4 • 5:45-6:15 pm
Saturday, November 5 • 12:45-1:15 pm (repeat session)

Mr. Jones is a 52-year-old male with stage IV colon cancer. He was diagnosed two years ago. He responded to initial treatment with FOLFIRI plus bevacizumab, but unfortunately, his disease had progressed recently. He presents to the clinic today to begin new therapy with cetuximab and irinotecan. His past medical history reveals eczema, hypercholesterolemia, and numerous medication allergies.  Mr. Jones seems anxious about starting a new treatment.

Come to this session to learn more about how to assess and treat Mr. Jones.

Win Educational Resources When You Come to the Simulation Center Presentations

All those who attend the simulation scenarios will have a chance to win a gift basket filled with educational resources from ONS, including online course registrations, publications, and more. We hope to see you there.
