CAM and Cancer Care: What Oncology Nurses Need to Know

This webcourse is designed to provide information about complementary and integrative therapies (CAM) and their use by individuals diagnosed with cancer. The course discusses specific therapies and assessment strategies; provides resources to assess for contraindications and/or interactions; and discusses the credentialing required for CAM. Through a series of modules and learning activities, learners will gain the knowledge needed to perform assessments, interpret data regarding safe use of CAM, and apply information learned to situations resembling clinical practice.

Course Objectives

 
Execute integrative assessments to compliment routine patient assessments.
Identify possible contraindications and/or interactions between an individual’s concurrent CAM and conventional medical therapies.
Synthesize safety and efficacy data, patient integrative assessment data, and practitioner referrals into a plan of care for the individual with cancer who chooses to use CAM therapies.
