Patient-Centered Outcomes

In 2010, the Government Accountability Office funded the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) as a mechanism to conduct research that provides information about the best available evidence to help patients and their health care providers make more informed decisions. PCORI’s research is intended to give patients a better understanding of the prevention, treatment, and care options available and the science that supports those options. ONS, and nursing in general, is tracking the priorities and grant opportunities relating to patient outcomes.

On September 30, 2011, PCORI Executive Director Joe Selby, M.D., announced the publication of “The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute - Promoting Better Information, Decisions, and Health"  and issued a statement on their $26 million pilot project grants program.
