2009 Leadership Development Institute Ensuring for over 10 years that oncology nurses remain a driving force in cancer care … PROGRAM MISSION The mission of LDI is to promote oncology nursing leadership in work settings, community settings, and in ONS, preparing oncology nurses to lead the transformation of cancer care at local, state, national and international levels. OVERVIEW Nurses today face more professional challenges than ever before. The nursing shortage, lack of access to care, and ever-changing advances in treatment incur more and more demands on the nurse’s time. Through the ONS/ONS Foundation LDI, you will develop new and creative ways to respond to these challenges. As a participant, you will learn how to more effectively manage projects and take an active role as a leader, mentor, coach, and role model, both personally and professionally. You will strategize and develop a project action plan, enhance your presentation skills, and take home other valuable leadership tools. LDI emphasizes the importance of networking and building professional relations with your peers, the public, politicians, and other influential decision-makers. The program consists of a three-day, work-intensive and highly introspective conference, followed by 14 months of project development under the accountability of a project team leader. While measurable results are the long-term goal, the intention of the program is to develop the leadership qualities established and taught during the conference. Whether you have aspirations to be a leader or you’re already in a leadership role and want to hone your skills, LDI is for you! TARGET AUDIENCE This program is designed for oncology nurses from all practice settings who want to increase their understanding of topics and skills related to leadership.
