The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) has selected Marsha Richardson, RN, MSN, OCN®, CBCN® as the 2013 Certified Breast Care Nurse of the Year. Richardson was selected for the award for her contributions to breast care nursing and nursing service; and for supporting and promoting certification in breast care/oncology nursing. She is the oncology program coordinator/breast cancer navigator at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, FL.

The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) has named Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, as the recipient of its 2013 Employer Recognition Award. Each year, this award recognizes one institution that employs 25 or more registered nurses for providing sustained support of oncology nursing certification.

She is an educator with the Mayo Clinic Cancer Education Program in Rochester, MN.

In response to member feedback, ONS is in the process of redesigning our website from the ground up to offer a site entirely focused on helping oncology nurses get to the information they need as quickly and easily as possible.
The launch of two exciting developments in this process is right around the corner: a brand-new ONS profile site, as well as an expanded beta preview of our new website. More details will be available in April when each of these launches.

ONS Receives Grant From AHRQ to Test New Strategies to Improve the Quality of Cancer Care

As cancer care is delivered more often in ambulatory settings or during very short hospital stays, the role of family members and other caregivers is becoming increasingly important in the care of patients with cancer. The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) has received a three-year grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to develop and examine innovative electronic communication methods to disseminate ONS’s research-based resources to healthcare providers to help improve the quality of patient care.
