ONCC Presents Employer Recognition Award

The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) has selected Springfield Oncology Hematology Associates (OHA) in Springfield, MO, as a recipient of its 2011 Employer Recognition Award.  Each year this award recognizes one organization that employs less than 25 registered nurses for providing sustained support of oncology nursing certification. The award was announced during the ONCC Recognition Breakfast for Oncology Certified Nurses on April 29, 2011, in Boston, MA.

At OHA, ONCC certification is preferred for all Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner staff positions. OHA fully pays for all application fees, review courses, preparation courses, reference books, study guides, or other expenses associated with obtaining or renewing certification. OHA recognizes certified nurses by displaying nurses’ certificates in the patient treatment areas. Certification credentials are inscribed on name badges and business cards. The nursing administrator introduces certified nurses to others as “This is Jane, she is one of our Oncology Certified Nurses” and the meaning of that is explained. The ONCC Recognition Plaque is displayed in the visitor area. Newly certified nurses are recognized in the center’s monthly newsletter.  Upon obtaining certification, the nurse receives an immediate pay increase. OHA provides paid time off for nurses to attend ONS educational events and pays for each nurse’s ONS membership.

The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC), an affiliated organization of ONS, administers and evaluates programs for certification in oncology nursing. Learn more about ONCC at www.oncc.org.
