ONS Presents Employer Recognition Award to Moffitt Cancer Center

The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) has selected Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL, as the recipient of its 2012 Employer Recognition Award for large employers. This award recognizes employers who show exemplary support of their registered nurses working in oncology. The award will be presented during ONS’s 37th Annual Congress in New Orleans, LA, on May 3–6.

“As a National Cancer Institute- (NCI-) designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, Moffitt boasts nurses trained in various oncology subspecialties,” said Jane Fusilero, vice president and chief nursing officer of Moffitt. “In 2011, Moffitt celebrated 25 years of oncology nursing. ONS helps us support our mission ‘to promote excellence in oncology nursing and quality care.’ We are honored to be recognized by the Society.”

Moffitt recognizes its oncology nurses by rewarding those who become certified, offering two scholarships per year for nurses to attend the national ONS conference of their choice, granting three paid professional development days each year for nurses to attend professional conferences, and purchasing, using, and disseminating ONS materials such as standards, guidelines, and other resources to their nurses.

As a large employer with more than 100 oncology nurses on staff, Moffitt also will be awarded four free registrations to an ONS educational activity, plus ONS bucks to be used for publications or other items.

Moffitt is one of 40 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers nationwide. Its mission is to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer. Moffitt’s Total Cancer Care™ program is a partnership among patients, doctors, and researchers to improve all aspects of cancer prevention and care. The Total Cancer Care program combines information technology, 21st-century science, and clinical care that can be personalized by matching the patient to the precise treatment.
