Jill Reese, RN, BSN, OCN® Receives 2012 ONS Excellence in Patient/Public Education Award

Jill M. Reese, RN, BSN, OCN®, is the recipient of the 2012 Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Excellence in Patient/Public Education Award. Reese is a clinical educator at Dayton Physicians, LLC, in Dayton, OH. This award recognizes her as an oncology nurse involved in offering creative and innovative educational programming for her patients, their families, and her community. She was recognized with this award during the recent ONS 37th Annual Congress in New Orleans, LA.
Reese is described by her nominators as being supportive to nurses, whether they have been in oncology for one month or for 20 years. She develops ways to make learning fun, interesting, and easy to understand, no matter how complex the subject matter. She encourages nurses to seek oncology nursing certification and is their study buddy to help them pass the certification test. Reese also is her facility’s compliance officer, educating the entire staff on all compliance related procedures, including safe handling of hazardous drugs, and HIPAA regulations.
“I hear from patients and staff that I do a good job, but to have been nominated and having won this is an enormous honor – one I never imagined,” said Reese.
Reese received her bachelor of science in nursing degree from Wright State University in Dayton. She is president-elect of the West Central Ohio Chapter of ONS.
