ONS Welcomed Into the Alliance for Nursing Informatics

The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is pleased to announce that it has been granted full membership into the Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI). ANI is a collaboration of organizations that represents more than 5,000 nurse informaticists and brings together 30 distinct nursing informatics groups globally. ANI advances nursing informatics leadership, practice, education, policy, and research through a unified voice of nursing informatics organizations.

“ONS is excited about the opportunity to join ANI and share the voices of oncology nurses throughout the world,” said Elizabeth Wertz Evans, RN, BSN, MPM, CPHQ, CPHIMS, FACMPE, ONS executive director of Professional Practice and Programs. “As the field of nursing informatics continues to grow, we appreciate the ability to collaborate with our nursing colleagues and lead efforts toward common strategic goals and activities that will make a difference in the lives of people with cancer. ONS has been actively working on efforts related to nursing informatics and health information technology (HIT) as it relates to the specialty of oncology. A Nursing Informatics Focus Group was created earlier this year and met for the first time at Congress 2012. In addition, ONS is a partner with the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) to promote National Health IT Week from September 10–14, 2012.”

Each member organization of ANI that has been granted full membership serves on the Governing Directors with voting power. The Governing Directors will identify the strategic goals and activities of ANI each year.
