ONS Journals Unveil Advanced Print Exclusive Articles

The Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing (CJON) and the Oncology Nursing Forum (ONF) are unveiling advanced print exclusive articles to give our readers access to important, cutting-edge content ahead of print.

Starting in November 2012, advanced print exclusive articles for CJON will be available on  MetaPress under the advanced print exclusive tab. These articles will be open access, meaning they are available to members and non-members alike, until they appear in print at a later date. At that time, the content will become password-protected like all of the other articles that appear in print as online exclusives in the journals.

According to CJON Editor Deborah Mayer, PhD, RN, AOCN®, FAAN, "We listen to our readers and are very pleased to be offering early access to important articles. It is a way to highlight important work that contributes to improving cancer care. We look forward to hearing what you think."

The first article to receive the advanced print exclusive designation for CJON is “An Oncology Nurse Navigator Program Designed to Eliminate Gaps in Early Cancer Care,” by Kathryn Horner, MS, Evette J. Ludman, PhD, Ruth McCorkle, PhD, RN, FAAN, Ellen Canfield, BSN, RN, Lynn Flaherty, RN, BSN, ONC, Jennifer Min, RN, BSN, Janice Miyoshi, BS, Beth Lapham, BA, Erin J. Aiello Bowles, MPH, and Edward H. Wagner, MD, MPH. The authors discuss the needs of patients and families regarding psychosocial support, access to information, and care coordination and detail the creation of an oncology nurse navigator program to address these gaps. The authors also perform a randomized, controlled trial to test the effectiveness of the new oncology nurse navigator program.
