Friday, January 25, 2013
The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is pleased to announce that Self-Healing Through Reflection, A Workbook for Nurses published by Hygeia Media, an imprint of ONS, won second place in the prestigious 2012 American Journal of Nursing (AJN) Book of the Year Award in the professional development and issues category. The book is edited by Nancy Jo Bush, RN, MN, MA, AOCN®, FAAN, and Deborah A. Boyle, RN, MSN, AOCNS®, FAAN.
The book offers information, exercises, and tools for self-reflection to better help nurses cope with the stressors that invade their personal and professional lives so they can provide themselves with the same level of care as they do their patients.
“We are very honored to receive this prestigious award!” said Bush. “The need for self-healing in nurses has been underappreciated. We hope that our book is a vehicle for sharing the message that healthy nurses have improved quality of life in all realms—including nursing practice." Bush is a lecturer/oncology nurse practitioner at the University of California Los Angeles School of Nursing.
“We are thrilled that our book has been honored with this critical acclaim,” said Boyle. “It appears that although long overdue, recognition of nurses' need to care for themselves has finally earned its necessary due.” Boyle is a clinical nurse specialist at University of California Irvine Medical Center, Chao Family Comprehensive in Orange, CA.
The AJN is the nation’s oldest and largest circulating nursing journal and one of the most highly respected. Its AJN Book of the Year Award competition draws hundreds of submissions by authors from various fields in the nursing profession. A distinguished panel of judges selects those considered to be the most valuable texts each year.
