LDI on Hold for 2011

Dear ONS Member:

Leadership is one of ONS’s key areas of focus. We are committed to providing programming and services that give nurses the skills and expertise they need to become strong leaders in their institutions and communities, as well as within ONS. Leadership Development Institute (LDI), which began in 1998 and funded by the ONS Foundation, is one such program. Through the years, LDI has brought together hundreds of participants from a variety of age groups, experience levels, and positions for a three-day leadership conference followed by a year of mentorship and goal accomplishment. Over the last 12 years, over 680 nurses have attend LDI, preparing the profession of Oncology Nursing and our Society with leaders who today are making differences because of their learned leadership skills.

Preparing future Oncology Nurse Leaders continues to be important to ONS. Recently the ONS Board of Directors made a decision to take a step back from our current LDI program in 2011 and allow for a period of assessment and reflection on future leadership programs.   Therefore, ONS will not offer LDI in 2011. However, 2011 will be a year of planning and evolution as ONS determines the most appropriate programs of leadership development that best suits this diversity of ages, experience levels, learning styles, and interests, and most importantly, the needs of Oncology nurses of the future.

LDI has truly been a life-changing experience for many who have participated. We look forward to a continued tradition of excellence in leadership programming that will address the needs of nurses in the 21st century while still retaining the reputation that LDI has established for ONS as a source of excellence in leadership development.
