ONS Website Redesign Reaches Two New Milestones

In response to member feedback, ONS is in the process of redesigning our website from the ground up to offer a site entirely focused on helping oncology nurses get to the information they need as quickly and easily as possible. The launch of two exciting developments in this process is right around the corner: a brand-new ONS profile site, as well as an expanded beta preview of our new website. More details will be available in April when each of these launches.

ONS Wins 2012 AJN Book of the Year Honor

The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is pleased to announce that Self-Healing Through Reflection, A Workbook for Nurses published by Hygeia Media, an imprint of ONS, won second place in the prestigious 2012 American Journal of Nursing (AJN) Book of the Year Award in the professional development and issues category.

ONS Receives Grant From AHRQ to Test New Strategies to Improve the Quality of Cancer Care

As cancer care is delivered more often in ambulatory settings or during very short hospital stays, the role of family members and other caregivers is becoming increasingly important in the care of patients with cancer. The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) has received a three-year grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to develop and examine innovative electronic communication methods to disseminate ONS’s research-based resources to healthcare providers to help improve the quality of patient care.

ONS Releases Position on Cancer Genetics and Genomics

Oncology nurses’ understanding and application of cancer genetics and genomics can change and improve the practice of general oncology nurses and advanced practice nurses in the course of patient risk assessment, prevention, screening, and treatment of cancer. A new position released by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) encourages the integration of new evidence-based genetic and genomic information into oncology nursing practice and the education of patients and the public about the potential benefits and limitations of genetic and genomic testing.

ONS Selects Schoology to Enhance the Continuing Education of Members

The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is pleased to announce that it has selected the Schoology platform as its preferred learning management system. ONS will use Schoology to connect members to its latest research, training, and continuing education resources.

Critical Nursing Leadership Skills Identified in ONS Leadership Competencies

Nurses are the largest profession of healthcare workers in the United States and are at the forefront of patient care. In today’s complex healthcare delivery environment, nurses must be leaders at all levels of the profession. The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is pleased to announce the release of the ONS Leadership Competencies which are designed to reflect the specific needs of oncology nurses, but can transcend practice settings and be used universally across nursing specialties to increase and measure leadership competency in any environment.

ONS Journals Unveil Advanced Print Exclusive Articles

Starting in November 2012, advanced print exclusive articles for CJON will be available on MetaPress under the advanced print exclusive tab. These articles will be open access, meaning they are available to members and non-members alike, until they appear in print at a later date. At that time, the content will become password-protected like all of the other articles that appear in print as online exclusives in the journals.
