Introduction

The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Putting Evidence Into Practice (PEP) Resources are essential for facilitating the use of evidence-based oncology nursing interventions in practice. The ONS PEP Resources’ purpose is to provide the best scientific evidence for improving cancer care and patient-centered outcomes.

Oncology Nursing Society PEP Resources

The development of the ONS PEP Resources was a result of the Society’s nursing-sensitive patient outcomes and evidence-based practice (EBP) work. ONS PEP Resources for 16 topics are available in Putting Evidence Into Practice: Improving Oncology Patient Outcomes. The book stresses the importance of measuring the clinical problem to determine the effectiveness of the evidence-based interventions and provides examples of measurement tools.

Nursing interventions that have been empirically tested are identified in the ONS PEP Resources. Interventions supported by expert opinion are also included. If no evidence is available for an intervention, it will not be found in the ONS PEP Resource.

This second volume of Putting Evidence Into Practice is a supplement to the 2009 book and provides resources in four new topic areas:

  • Cognitive impairment
  • Hot flashes
  • Radiodermatitis
  • Skin reactions.
