Evidence-Based Outcomes Measurement Summaries

Measuring Oncology Nursing-Sensitive Patient Outcomes: Evidence-Based Summaries

Measuring oncology nursing-sensitive patient outcomes is the next step in defining oncology nursing-sensitive patient outcomes. The ONS Outcomes Project Team commissioned nursing research experts to develop evidence-based summaries. The purpose of these evidence-based summaries is to provide a centralized resource regarding the measurement of specific oncology nursing-sensitive patient outcomes. These summaries are partially funded by the ONS Foundation Center for Leadership, Information, and Research (CLIR) through an unrestricted grant from Ortho Biotech Products, L.P. PRISM project.

The authors identify measures of selected patient outcomes, which have been used in studies of individuals with cancer. Depending on the outcome, specific inclusion criteria are specified. They provide summaries of each tool, including a description of the tool's constructs or domains, scaling, scoring, and language availability. Specific findings to support reliability, validity, sensitivity or responsiveness, and clinical usefulness are included. References related to each tool are listed.
