Loretta A. Williams, PhD, RN, MSN, BSN, BA

LoriWilliamsDr. Lori Williams is an Instructor in the Department of Symptom Research at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse. She has worked in oncology nursing for more than 28 years. She is a national and international speaker and has authored numerous articles in nursing and other peer-reviewed journals. She is especially interested in the measurement of symptoms, the biological mechanisms of symptom production, the effects of symptoms on family caregivers, and symptoms of hematological malignancies. She is currently studying the experience of cancer-related fatigue with a grant from Cephalon, Inc., and is studying symptoms related to several hematological malignancies and their treatments, including chronic myelogenous leukemia and multiple myeloma, with grants from Novartis Pharmaceuticals and the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Williams is actively involved in leadership with the national Oncology Nursing Society (ONS). She was a 2006-2008 member of the ONS Foundation Small Grant and Research Fellowship Review Team and is the 2009 team leader. She was an associate editor for the Oncology Nursing Forum from 2004-2007 and was the chairperson of the 2004 ONS Annual Congress. She is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Patient Advocate Foundation. She was an NIH fellow in 2002 at the National Institute of Nursing Research Summer Genetics Institute. She received American Cancer Society Scholarships for masters and doctoral study in oncology nursing.
