Peer Reviewers Oncology Nursing Forum Expands Opportunities for Peer Reviewers Honor a Colleague With an ONS Commemorative Resolution A Commemorative Resolution is a statement that recognizes significant past contributions at a national or international level of member(s), individual(s), or organization(s). These contributions should have made a significant change and/or contributed to the body of knowledge of oncology nursing or the field of cancer care. Commemorative resolutions are awarded at a memorable point in time (e.g., death, retirement, major achievement) of an individual or organization. These achievements may include but are not limited to
Commemorative resolutions are approved by the Board and may be submitted throughout the year. Those honored by commemorative resolutions are announced at the annual business meeting at Congress. Examples of those honored in the past include the American Cancer Society; National Cancer Institute; Virginia Barckley, a pioneer leader in oncology nursing; Susan Baird, the first editor of the Oncology Nursing Forum; Lisa Begg, founding ONS president; the original founding officers of ONS; Roberta Scofield, first Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation president; and Mary Mazzaway, for her commitment to compassionate care at the bedside while serving as a mentor in oncology nursing. Most recently, the ONS Board honored Trish Greene with a Commemorative Resolution in 1999 in recognition of her leadership in cancer nursing education and research and her efforts as a mentor and national leader in oncology nursing.
