Trish Greene Memorial Quality of Life Lectureship Winner

All awards, grants, and scholarships are tentative and subject to change based on funding availability.
Award: A $2,000 honorarium, one coach airfare to IOL, two-day per diem for IOL, and a plaque. The paper will be published in the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing.
Purpose: This award was established to focus attention of the membership on quality-of-life issues in cancer care; describe the contributions of clinicians, educators, administrators, and researchers in oncology nursing to quality of life in cancer care; apply information related to quality of life to oncology nursing practice; and incorporate the philosophy of quality of life into all aspects of cancer care. The lecture is presented at the ONS Annual Institutes of Learning.
Nominee's Eligibility Criteria:
The candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Be a registered professional nurse and an active ONS member
- Demonstrate excellence in clinical practice, education, administration, or research related to quality-of-life issues and contribute to the specialty of oncology nursing
- Communicate effectively through written and verbal formats.
*This award is in memory of Trish Greene, an oncology nursing leader and pain management expert who was active in ONS. She died of cancer in 1999.
Criteria: The scoring criteria for judging this nomination packet is as follows:
- ONS involvement: Participation should include involvement at the local or national level, and includes membership on committees, holding office, or task force participation.
- Contribution to the specialty of Oncology Nursing:
- Examples from CV
- Clinical developments such as staff development, program development, patient teaching, support groups
- Community outreach (programs such as ACS, Leukemia Society, camps for patients with cancer, survivor’s day participation or other related activities)
- Adjunct faculty or preceptor of students
- Excellent written communication skills: Includes articles in newsletters, journals, reports, video, multimedia, computer assisted instruction, or chapters in books
- Presentation experience: Presentations listed on CV/application
- Excellence in Quality of Life Issues (Clinical, education, administration and/or research related):
- Examples within reference letters or on CV
- QOL contributions: presentations, literature, specific educational interventions, research issues
