Symptom Management: Hematologic Toxicities

Current Trends in Neutropenic Fevers and Sepsis

Neutropenic patients are susceptible to a wide range of complications and rare infections that can lead to sepsis. During this presentation faculty discuss the pathogenesis, predisposing factors, and evaluation and management of neutropenic fevers. Learn more.

Improving Prevention of Infection and Treatment of Febrile Neutropenia

This session provides an overview of the nursing implications for the prevention of infection and the treatment of febrile neutropenia in the patient with cancer. Key topics include a description of the types of infections associated with immune dysfunction, pharmacologic interventions used to prevent infection, a review of the limited evidence for neutropenic precautions, the treatment of febrile neutropenia according to the NCCN guidelines and evidence-based recommendations for the use of colony-stimulating factors. In addition, participants learn risk factors associated with febrile neutropenia and how to determine a patient's risk of complications from febrile neutropenia. Case studies illustrate the key points of this presentation.

Improving Patient Outcomes: Managing Anemia, Maintaining Treatment Goals, Maximizing Quality of Life

2.0 Contact hours: through 12/31/06
1.6 starting 1/01/07

Expiration: 10/01/2008
This webcast is supported by an educational grant from Amgen, Inc.

Improve patient outcomes through risk management and on-time interventions for chemotherapy-induced anemia (CIA)! What risk factors are most important to predict CIA? How significant are the patient's blood labs, and how do you interpret them? When is the "right" time for a clinical intervention? This webcast will provide an in-depth discussion of clinical evaluation, current evidence, practice guidelines, and best practices to manage anemia. The faculty will review several case studies comparing treatment approaches and their effect on patient outcomes.
