lecture will focus on the clinical and laboratory features of MDS as well
as the classification, risk stratification, and prognosis of MDS. The
current FDA-approved treatments will be discussed. Case studies will be

What's Blasting Off in CML - Part 1 reviews the history, epidemiology,
and pathophysiology of CML. This section looks at how the Philadelphia
Chromosome and associated genetic mutation helps separate CML from other
leukemias. Through the use of a case study, the usual patient presentation
and diagnostic techniques in CML are reviewed. Finally, the phases
of CML as well as the clinical course associated with those phases are described. Speakers for
this podcast are Jill E. Nelson, APRN, BC, AOCNP® and Patricia Jakel,
RN, MN, AOCN®. This podcast is worth 0.5 CNE credits.
What's Blasting Off in CML - Part 2 discusses the
management of CML in detail. Questions related to past,
present, and future therapies of CML are answered. Resistance
to standard imatinib therapy is explained and available alternate
treatments are reviewed. Clinical trial data for
imatinib, dasatinib, and nilotinib are described as well as the common
side effects seen with each therapy. The speaker for this podcast
is Michael J. Mauro, MD. This podcast is worth 0.75 CNE credits.
What's Blasting Off in CML -
Part 3 discusses patient adherence to therapy.
The failure of patients to take their medications as prescribed
can have dramatic effects, most importantly, can contribute to
treatment failure. This section reviews data
on the high incidence of patient nonadherence to oral therapies
and encourages nurses to actively evaluate their patients’ adherence
to therapy. This section concludes with a case study
and a Q & A session from the Satellite Symposium. The
speakers for this podcast are Patricia Jakel, RN, MN, AOCN® and
