Quality Cancer Care Clinical Resource Area - Nurses in Action
Nurses in Action QCC Report Form
Ways to Carry the QCC Message: Colleague to Colleague
- Dedicate a special meeting of your local ONS chapter to quality cancer care. Have members discuss the ONS Position on Quality Cancer Care and the Patients' Bill of Rights for Quality Cancer Care. Encourage discussion and the development of an action plan to disseminate the information.
- Share copies of the ONS Position on Quality Cancer Care and the Patients' Bill of Rights for Quality Cancer Care with the leadership in your work setting.
- Consider developing, on your own, or with colleagues, a plan to educate the public about quality cancer care and applying for a community education grant from the Oncology Nursing Foundation.
- Work to get your organization to embrace the ONS Position on Quality Cancer Care and the Patients' Bill of Rights for Quality Cancer Care. Suggest sharing this information with patients and families from the perspective that it is your organization's position as well.
- Have your organization's library prepare a display on quality cancer care.
Ways to Carry the QCC Message: In Your Community
- Work with colleagues to bring quality cancer care information to community support groups and other special populations, such as high-risk ethnic groups and churches.
- Faithfully read any health/medical columns in your daily and weekly newspapers and watch or listen to health and medical statements on local radio and television stations. Meet with the writers and reporters to share information about quality cancer care.
- Write to your local, state, and federal health policy makers to share information on quality cancer care and share your support or disapproval of proposed legislation.
- During special events, such as Oncology Nursing Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, or National Cancer Survivors Day, make the message of quality cancer care a part of your community activities.
- Ask your public library to develop a display or bulletin board about quality cancer care.
- Send information about quality cancer care to area churches and civic organizations.
- Contact local business organizations (e.g., Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis) to offer to speak on quality cancer care.
