Hematologic Toxicities Clinical Resource Area - Anemia

Anemia is a common side effect of cancer treatment that occurs when the body does not produce enough red blood cells. Red blood cells contain hemoglobin (Hb), an iron binding protein that carries the oxygen the body needs for energy.

The most obvious sign of anemia is fatigue. Almost all patients with cancer report some degree of fatigue during the treatment process. In the past 5 years, tremendous advances in the management of anemia with medication and understanding fatigue have occured.

The resources in this section will help you to learn more about treatment-related anemia and fatigue.
