A good night's sleep is important to healthy living, homeostasis, balance, and quality of life. According to the Sleep Foundation the loss of just one hour of sleep over a period of time can have a negative effect on many life processes. Sleep is an important contributor to quality of life for the healthy individual. Kvale and Shuster (2006) state that the prevalence of insomnia in Cancer patients is significantly higher than in the general population. (p.438). This resource area provides information on sleep disorders in the oncology patient.
