Lung Cancer Clinical Resource Area

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in both women and men in the United States, Canada, and China. In several other countries, lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer deaths in men and the second or third cause among women. The majority of lung cancers are related to tobacco use and can be prevented.

Approximately 173,770 new cases of lung cancer will be diagnosed in 2004, accounting for 13% of all new cancer cases. An estimated 160,440 Americans will die in 2004 from lung cancer, accounting for 28% of all cancer deaths

Lung cancer treatment is complex. Fourteen percent of people who develop lung cancer survive for five years, and their treatment path is arduous. This resource area provides access to the latest evidenced-based information on delivering quality lung cancer care.
