ONS Website Editorial Board: Biographical Information

Julie Bergkamp, RN, MSN, OCN®

Ms. Bergkamp currently practices as a staff nurse in the outpatient setting, at the Cancer Center of Kansas in Wichita, Kansas. Prior to joining the physician based team of adult oncology in the community setting she worked at the local non-profit tertiary hospital. She been a member of the initial home based palliative care team in Wichita and surrounding counties. In addition Ms. Bergkamp held a position on the management team for post acute rehabilitation. She finds the daily challenges presented in delivery of quality oncology care and comfort measures for patient's, families and caregivers exhilarating.

In the early 1980's she received an ASN from Newman College. Later she went on to obtain my BSN through a degree completion program of Kansas Newman College in Wichita, KS. In May 2004 she completed a MSN at Newman University. Currently she is working on my post Masters Certificate of Family Nurse Practitioner from Wichita State University.

Ms. Bergkamp is an active member of her local ONS Chapter. She has served as Board Secretary and assisted in planning and preparing local oncology CEU programs. She participates as a member of the Oncology Nursing Forum article review team and is a member of the Education Advisory Panel. She has served as a member of the project team for Use of Unlicensed Assistive Personnel in Oncology. In 2005 she participated as a fellow in Leadership Development Institute.

Additional professional activities include participation in her local American Cancer Society Chapter. She has acted as Board Secretary for the Relay for Life Committee and assisted with the creation and kickoff of the internet site for Sedgwick County. She also supports a local community based Oncology Volunteer program; Victory in the Valley.
