How We Define Quality: Our Review Process

The ONS Web site Editorial Board ensures that the information available on www.ons.org is accurate, current, and relevant for ONS members, patients, and other oncology healthcare professionals. Our review process is applied to content developed by ONS members that is included on www.ons.org and to content available on other Web sites that are linked to www.ons.org.

Editorial Board members review each external Web site or information resource area. The ONS website Editor makes the final decision on controversial information or in the case of conflicting reviews. Editorial Board members will complete an electronic review form for each external web site or information source. These are kept in a database. Board members evaluate each request based on the following criteria:

• Privacy
• Disclosure
• Content provider/author
• Clinical relevance and accuracy
• Consistency with the mission of ONS and www.ons.org

The Editorial Board also works to keep the number of links on the site balanced and has established maximum numbers for some areas.

The ONS Web site carries information provided by the other organizations identified on its web pages. With commercial sponsors, www.ons.org also provides a public space in which these organizations can exchange information and ideas. Materials available in different areas of www.ons.org may be inconsistent or contradictory because, at times, organizations disagree over both facts and opinions.

The ONS Web site is not the publisher of the information it links to. Each organization linked to www.ons.org complies, edits, and publishes its own information, and each organization is solely responsible for the accuracy of the information published, the intellectual property rights of the material, and the opinions expressed in its cyberspace. Materials will be updated at the discretion of each organization, and each organization is responsible for informing users as to the accuracy of the information it provides. Any questions or comments regarding any content in any area and any requests to reproduce any materials provided in any area must be directed to the web master (or contact person) for each organization listed in each area and should not be directed to the editorial board of www.ons.org.

Survey Selection Policy And Procedure

ONS Surveys: The only surveys that may be posted on www.ons.org are those surveys that are official ONS surveys as described by the ONS Research Team. All of these surveys must go through the proper application and review procedures as described in the ONS Research Application Guidelines.
