Enhance Your Diagnostic Skills - Diagnostic sessions are now full
Participants will rotate through the four workshops listed below.

Thursday, November 8 • noon–4 pm

Introduction to Bone Marrow Biopsy Techniques
Enhance your knowledge and skills related to your role in performing bone marrow examinations. The session will include a short didactic lecture, a video, and an individualized hands-on practicum with complete bone marrow biopsy trays, anatomical mannequins, and sternum and pelvic models. Instructional content will explore a broad compliment of procedural concepts and diagnostic assays. Joan Latsko

An Introduction to State-of-the-Art Oncologic Imaging
This didactive session will provide an overview of the current radiologic tools used in oncologic imaging for diagnosing, staging, restaging, and evaluating response to therapy for a number of common malignancies. The session will rely heavily on case presentations and focus on CT, MR (neurologic, abdominal, and breast), bone scintigraphy, and PET. We will discuss when to order a certain exam and the relative strengths and weaknesses of each. Daniel Appelbaum

The Basics of 12-Lead ECG Interpretation
This session will review the normal electrocardiogram (ECG) waveform, principles of 12-lead ECG interpretation, and common abnormalities that can be detected on the 12-lead ECG. You will use practice ECGs and case scenarios to identify key findings associated with myocardial ischemia, myocardial infarction, pericarditis/effusion, pulmonary embolism, acute intracranial bleed, electrolyte abnormalities, QT prolongation syndromes, and the effects of medications. Sample ECGs will demonstrate outcomes of specific interventions for common cardiac rhythm disorders. Brenda Shelton

Biopsy and Suturing Basics
This interactive, hands-on session will start with basic didactic information, followed by visual demonstration. You’ll practice your newly acquired skills with assistance from the instructors and learn the basics of applying a suture to close a small biopsy wound. Robin Klebig, Kathy Sharp
