CJON Mentor/Fellow Writing Program

Deadline extended!

Are you ready to share your expertise through writing? If you’ve never written for a peer-reviewed journal before, this is your chance to have an experienced colleague mentor you through the process.

Are you an experienced author interested in helping others learn the ropes? Consider applying to be a mentor! We are looking for qualified applicants to help the next generation of writers through the process.

The CJON Mentor/Fellow Writing Program is an application-based program. Each year, up to 10 mentor/fellow dyads are selected to work together on an article for publication. Papers must be submitted to the journal for consideration within 9 months. Only the mentor and fellow work on the paper (no additional authors).

Mentors will receive an honorarium for serving. Expenses are reimbursable.

Mentor Criteria

Mentor applicants must:

  • Be ONS members.
  • Have experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Provide current curriculum vitae and identify five (5) areas of expertise.
  • Complete an application (download the application below).
  • Current CJON, ONF, ONS Web site, and ONS Connect Editorial Board members, and ONS staff members are not eligible to apply. Review board members are eligible.
  • In cases where several applicants are equally qualified, geographic proximity will be taken into consideration since there is value to the mentor and fellow in being able to communicate more easily if they reside in the same time zone or are able to meet face-to-face.

Fellow Criteria

Fellow applicants must:

  • Be ONS members.
  • Be direct caregivers who have never before published an article in a peer-reviewed journal or published a book chapter. They may, however, have published articles in their SIG, chapter, or hospital newsletter since that is a very different type of writing.
  • Have basic computer skills and access to a computer.
  • Complete an application (download the application below).
  • Nurses with master’s degrees are eligible as long as they are novice writers and direct caregivers.

The deadline to apply for the 2008 program has passed. Please check back in the fall for information on the 2009 program. For more information, contact pubcjon@ons.org.
