ONCC Honors Froedtert Hospital

The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) has named Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI, as a recipient of its 2012 Employer Recognition Award. Each year, this award recognizes one institution that employs 25 or more registered nurses for providing sustained support of oncology nursing certification.
Froedtert demonstrates an ongoing commitment to nursing excellence by requiring that all nurses in the Clinical Cancer Center and on the oncology unit be certified, or attain certification within 12-24 months. They provide full financial support for obtaining and maintaining certification, and offer free on-site preparation courses. Froedtert recognizes certified nurses in a variety of ways, including the use of a structured introduction when greeting patients and families. The introduction acknowledges the certified status of nurses. They also display the names of certified nurses in patient care areas. Froedtert’s performance review system utilizes a scoring method that recognizes certification in salary increases. Nurses may also earn up to eight hours of additional pay by volunteering with national organizations such as ONCC, or participating in community outreach activities. They also fully support their nurses’ participation in oncology nursing educational conferences.

The award was announced during the ONCC Recognition Breakfast for Oncology Certified Nurses on May 4, 2012, in New Orleans, LA.
The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote excellence in patient care and professional practice by validating specialized knowledge in oncology nursing and related specialties. ONCC administered the first Oncology Certified Nurse examination in 1986. Today, ONCC offers basic and advanced certification in adult oncology nursing, basic certification in pediatric oncology/hematology nursing, and specialty certification in breast care nursing.
