ONCC Honors Moncrief Cancer Institute
Friday, May 11, 2012
The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) has selected Moncrief Cancer Institute in Fort Worth, TX, as a recipient of its 2012 Employer Recognition Award. Each year, this award recognizes one organization that employs less than 25 registered nurses for providing sustained support of certification in oncology nursing. The award was announced during the ONCC Recognition Breakfast for Oncology Certified Nurses on May 4, 2012, in New Orleans, LA.
At Moncrief, ONCC certification is required for all oncology nurse positions. Nurses must be oncology certified at the time of hire, or within one year. Moncrief provides full financial support for test fees, review courses, and study materials, as well as for continuing education programs that can be used for certification renewal. They also fully support their nurses’ participation in oncology nursing conferences, whether as an attendee or presenter. Moncrief recognizes certified nurses by including credentials on name badges, business cards, and the institute’s web site. They also display a plaque featuring the names of certified nurses at their facility. Moncrief encourages certified nurses to participate on advisory boards and in community outreach activities. They also offer specific pay grades for certified nurses, including salary increases for maintaining certification.
ONCC is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote excellence in patient care and professional practice by validating specialized knowledge in oncology nursing and related specialties. ONCC administered the first Oncology Certified Nurse examination in 1986. Today, ONCC offers basic and advanced certification in adult oncology nursing, basic certification in pediatric oncology/hematology nursing, and specialty certification in breast care nursing. More than 32,000 nurses are currently certified by ONCC. Learn more about ONCC at www.oncc.org.
