Hemophilia
This inherited bleeding disorder is caused by a deficiency of the clotting factors within the blood. There are two types of Hemophilia; type A, where clotting factor VIII is low or missing & type B where clotting factor IX is low or missing. Type A is much more common and accounts for approximately 80% of all diagnosis. There are approximately 20,000 cases in the United States . The condition is primarily a condition of those of the Eastern European Jewish ancestry. Researchers are working on developing new and advanced treatment options beyond routine transfusion of blood products.
