The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) accredits cancer programs throughout the United States. Currently, approximately 1,500 programs are treating 70% of all newly diagnosed patients with cancer. In 2012, the CoC released new standards, Cancer Program Standards 2012 Version 1.2: Ensuring Patient-Centered Care. Most of the newer standards will be required by 2015 for accreditation or reaccreditation. Meeting these standards is meant as a measure to reflect the quality cancer care that is being delivered within the program.
