Do you have any idea how powerful you are as an oncology nurse? Embracing change not only helps you provide higher-quality care for your patients, but it also improves your personal well-being as a nurse. Maimah Karmo, the 48th Annual ONS Congress® keynote speaker, will help you discover your potential to promote change and transformation in cancer research and care during her keynote session on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

Karmo is a best-selling author, transformational coach, and speaker. In 2010, Karmo received the Congressional Black Caucus’s Leadership in Advocacy Award and the Running Start’s Young Women to Watch Award. In 2011, she was appointed to the Federal Advisory Committee on Breast Cancer in Young Women to develop initiatives to increase knowledge of breast health and breast cancer.

Karmo is a stage II triple-negative breast cancer survivor whose experience with the disease inspired her to move mountains and create change—founding her organization while receiving chemotherapy treatments. She became heavily involved in patient advocacy and spearheaded and executed the creation of the Tigerlily Foundation, an organization that provides patients with breast cancer with the tools and resources they need to feel empowered during their cancer journey, while also working to create systemic change in health advocacy.

“I just thought, ‘What if?’ And now we’re a national grassroots-led national and growing globally,” Karmo said.

Karmo will galvanize ONS Congress attendees during her keynote session by explaining the power you hold to create and drive change and how empowering yourself can help you place your patients at the heart of your practice and support your well-being as a nurse. Karmo will also discuss how she founded the Tigerlily Foundation to help patients, how you can bring your own passions to fruition through empowerment and inspiration, and how to build bridges to fill gaps in care for both patients and oncology nurses.

“I think it, I dream it, I do it,” Karmo said. “It’s not rocket science. I just do it.”

Karmo’s keynote session will kick off the 2023 ONS Congress in San Antonio, TX. The energy that erupts through our first session of the day is contagious, and you won’t want to miss the impact that Karmo’s message has on the oncology nursing community. Register today to join us!
