ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate Renewal Course



This renewal course is for those who have already taken the Certificate Course. 

The ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate Renewal Course will guide you through four strategically planned case studies to ensure that your chemotherapy and biotherapy knowledge stays current and you’re continuing to progress as an experienced oncology RN.

Eligibility: If you have earned your ONS Provider Card and ONCC Certificate of Added Qualification in 2016 through the ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate Course, you will be eligible to take the ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate Renewal Course, assuming that you are not more than 30 days past your expiration date.

This course is offered on demand. Instructions on how to immediately access the course will be sent to you in an automatically generated email receipt after you register. You will enjoy continuous access for six months.

Expected Outcomes

Target Audience

This course is limited to nurses who took the ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate Course and presently hold and desire to maintain a current ONS Provider Card and ONCC Certificate of Added Qualification.

ILNA Breakdown

Candidates may claim 5.1 CNE or ILNA points in any area of their choosing on the following blueprint areas:  Disease Related Biology, Oncologic Emergencies, Professional Practice, Scientific Basis for Practice, Symptom Management, Treatment, Preparative Regimens, Early Post-Transplant Management, Late Post-Transplant Management.

Candidates will not be able to place the 5.1 ILNA points under both categories as the number of points claimed cannot exceed the total CNE points for the offering.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain what relative dose intensity is and its role in cancer treatment.
  • Calculate an ANC and interpret the ANC results for next steps.
  • Discuss risk factors, prevention, assessment and evidence-based interventions for common chemotherapy toxicities (ie. myelosuppression, cardiotoxicity, mucositis, peripheral neuropathy, N/V).
  • Calculate routine chemotherapy dosages using appropriate dosing principles.
  • List PPE required for hazardous drug administration per the guidelines.
  • Summarize important patient teaching points for their protection against exposure to hazardous drugs.
  • Discuss what cumulative dose is and the nurse’s role in monitoring cumulative dose.
