Intraspinal Techniques

PEP Topic
Refractory/Intractable Pain

Intraspinal techniques involve administering medication directly into the spinal canal. Approaches include intrathecal injections and implanted devices, such as reservoirs or pumps. These approaches have been evaluated for the management of intractable pain in patients with cancer. Considerations include the risk of infection and functioning of devices and catheters, as well as the availability of resources and the ability of caregivers to provide the related patient care.
