I am a relatively new oncology nurse, who is still coming off my high from my first ONS Annual Congress in New Orleans. What an amazing experience! I feel so honored and humbled to share a profession and passion with some amazing people. I came home to my Oncology Nursing Forum in the mail and easily read it cover to cover. I was not only moved by your beautifully written editorial (Katz, 2012), but I am encouraged to see your path to editor of ONF was not straightforward. I love how you call it the "Heinz 57 kind of career." I think it is becoming more rare to find someone who has known exactly what they want to do. I am a second-degree nurse who is still trying to figure out "what I want to be when I grow up." I, too, joined the nursing profession to make a difference, and I find my interests are drawing me away from the bedside to things like research and advocacy; however, I am scared to leave patient care for the reasons you mentioned. Thank you for sharing your story. I look forward to reading more from you in upcoming issues.
