Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs (Second Edition)
Guidelines for the safe handling of hazardous wastes have existed for 20 years or more, but with nearly six million healthcare workers handling these wastes as of 2009, the importance of maintaining safety guidelines has never been greater.
The second edition of Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs provides you with the details and procedures needed to keep safe in the workplace. You'll find information on issues such as drug administration, management of spills, and safety measures as well as details on the adverse effects of hazardous drugs, and evidence of occupational hazardous drugs exposure.
SPECIAL NOTE: This new second edition makes reference to use of Surface Safe® solution, marketed by Hospira, Inc., for decontaminating primary engineering controls (see pp. 28, 30, and 55 in the publication). Subsequent to the publication of the ONS guidelines, Hospira has notified its customers that it will no longer be marketing this product. As of September 2012, Surface Safe will be marketed by Covidien.
PUBLISHER'S NOTE: Correction to Figure 7 in Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs (2nd ed.)
The image of the Washburn Setup in Figure 7 of Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs (2nd ed.) (p. 41) is incorrect. The Foley catheter shown in the print and electronic editions of the book is a three-way catheter that could potentially lead to a leak of hazardous drug. The corrected figure can be viewed in the "Click to Preview" option. Electronic editions purchased starting in September 2014 contain the corrected image. We apologize for the error.
Download a free medical surveillance questionnaire from the book to monitor employees who are administering hazardous drugs.
