Geriatric Oncology Principles Helpful in Caring for Older Adults
This presentation is directed to oncology nurses and nurse practitioners who work in any setting. The principles of life expectancy, population statistics, primary care considerations, assessment and management strategies will be discussed. Working in oncology, all providers should be versed in the care of the older patient and family. This presentation will provide a general overview of geriatric/gerontology principles and offer strategies to address some of the limitations detected upon assessment.

Janine Overcash is a Professor of Clinical Nursing and the Co-Director of Co-Director of the Academy for Teaching Innovation, Excellence and Scholarship. Dr. Overcash is also a nurse practitioner in the Senior Adult Oncology Program and the James Cancer Hospital Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Cancer Center specializing in the care of the older person.
