ONS Congress™ offers a treasure trove of hidden gems, also known as abstracts, hidden betwixt and between the dozens of sessions that pull you from one conference room to the next throughout the day . . . and you don’t want to miss them!

Abstracts presented at ONS Congress represent the foundation of all the amazing work being done by oncology nurses. They are integral to our professional growth and development. They are the grassroots ideas that are shared at ONS Congress and then transported back to hundreds of practice settings where they germinate and propagate.

“So, what is an abstract?” Simply put, an abstract is a representation of your work, a summation of your research study or quality improvement project and an advertisement of your accomplishments. In its most basic form, an abstract is merely a summary of your work, an outline that identifies the objective, methodology, findings, conclusions, and intended results.

“I don’t know the first thing about writing or submitting an abstract.” Chances are you’ve probably already written an abstract. Submitting your abstract is a breeze. ONS offers complete details about the process here. Be sure to check out the FAQs for some helpful tips! If you’re still unsure, there’s the ONS Mentorship Program for Abstract Writers where first-time abstract writers are paired with experienced mentors to help guide them through the process. We’ve got your back!

Why should I submit an abstract?” If you’ve done something to improve the patient care delivered in your practice setting, then you owe it to all patients—and to yourself—to share your ideas and findings. Presenting an abstract at ONS Congress is the perfect way to start.

ONS will accept submissions from August 16, 2021, through September 30,2021. If you have a project or study that won’t conclude until the end of the year, you can submit a late-breaking abstract from December 13, 2021, through January 13, 2022.

All great journeys begin with a first step. Let your abstract submission to ONS Congress be that first step!
