This Should Not Be Happening: Young Adults With Cancer
This Should Not Be Happening: Young Adults With Cancer won first place in the prestigious 2014 American Journal of Nursing (AJN) Book of the Year Awards in the consumer health category. The book, an ONS Hygeia Media imprint, was written by Anne Katz, PhD, RN, FAAN, a clinical nurse specialist and AASECT-certified sexuality counselor at CancerCare Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada.

This Should Not Be Happening: Young Adults With Cancer confronts the challenges of cancer head-on with frank, pragmatic advice and inspiration on issues unique to young adults dealing with a life-changing illness. It is based on current research, the author’s clinical expertise, and interviews with young adults experiencing a range of cancer diagnoses and their parents.

“The AJN Book of the Year Award is especially gratifying for me, as this award is from my peers,” said Katz. “I am also pleased because this book, for and about young adults with cancer, raises an important topic in oncology care. Young adults have many unmet needs during and after their cancer treatment experience. For too long these have been ignored. This self-help book is a way of helping young adults help themselves—with the support of their healthcare providers, family, and friends.”

AJN is the nation’s oldest and largest circulating nursing journal and one of the most highly respected. Its Book of the Year Award competition draws hundreds of submissions by authors from various fields in the nursing profession. A distinguished panel of judges selects those considered to be the most valuable texts each year.
