Oncology Nurse Generalist Competencies
The oncology nurse plays a critical role in the delivery of quality nursing care to a high-risk and complex patient population. Regardless of employment setting, comprehensive knowledge and skills regarding cancer pathophysiology, treatment options, and symptom management are required elements of practice. As part of its mission to promote excellence in oncology nursing, the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) developed core competencies for the oncology nurse generalist identifying the fundamental knowledge, skills, and expertise required for a novice oncology nurse to proficiently perform the role.
